Overview

There are two courses on this subject covering from the ancient to modern church history. These courses use Christian History written by Alister McGrath as a textbook. You will answer to the questions in the workbook about the content of the textbook after read it carefully. You will learn the Christian history after Jesus Christ.

  • Each course takes seven 150-minute sessions (total 30 hours) to complete the course.

Contents

  1. Study the early church history (100-500 AD) and understand the relationship between the Christianity and the Roman Empire and that between the Christianity and Hellenism. Summarize the change in the Christianity after the conversion of Constantine the Great and the false teachings of the early church.
  2. Explain the background and religious thoughts of the Medieval Age (500-1500 AD) and the churches in the Medieval Age.
  3. Study the crisis of the Medieval Age churches, the relationship between the Christianity and Renaissance, and understand the background of the Christian Revolution.

Contents

  1. Study the background of the Christian Revolution, the doctrine and denominations of the Protestant Reformation, especially the thoughts of Luther, Zwingli, and Calvin, the progress of the Christian Revolution toward the whole Europe and North America. Learn about the relationship between the Christianity and art and science, and explain the European wars of religion.
  2. Study the early modern church history (1650-1914 AD) about the challenge from the Enlightenment, revolutions and the Protestant Reformation, the expansion of the Protestant Reformation in the USA, and its mission.
  3. Learn the chaos after the WW1, the crisis of Christian theology, the change of western Christianity after WW2, new theological issues after 1960s, and the expansion of the Christianity in the third world.
